NHS: Community Development – Winter Wellness for All
Last winter, Human Rights Solidarity joined forces with NHS West London to support migrant, refugee, and asylum-seeking communities in Westminster. Our goal was to ensure that everyone had access to the health information and services they needed to maintain their health and well-being.
We organized a series of engaging workshops that covered important topics, including vaccinations, registering with a GP, and practical self-care tips for the colder months. The objective was straightforward yet crucial: to bridge health inequalities and empower individuals from diverse backgrounds to navigate the NHS with confidence.

Over the course of the season, we had the privilege of reaching more than 280 participants, many of whom encountered challenges such as language barriers, difficulties in registering with a GP, or a limited understanding of how the UK healthcare system works. By offering a hybrid delivery model that combines in-person and online sessions, we were able to welcome a diverse range of participants, from elderly migrants to parents managing the health of their young children.

At the end of the workshops, participants left feeling better informed and more confident. They walked away equipped with multilingual resources that would not only benefit their health but also support their families. It was heartening to see individuals connecting with the information and finding the tools they need to take charge of their well-being.

– Enhanced understanding of how to register with a GP and access essential services.
– Reduced feelings of uncertainty and anxiety when seeking healthcare.
– Strengthened trust and improved relationships between local communities and NHS services.
– Overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees, highlighting the clarity and practical value of the sessions.
